The impact of heart health on wound healing

Chronic wounds affect approximately 6.7 million people in the United States. If left untreated, chronic wounds can lead to a diminished quality of life and possibly amputation of the affected limb. Of those individuals living with an amputation, 54 percent lost their limb(s) due to complications related to vascular disease. While there are several factors that can affect wound healing, heart health is one of the most important. Heart disease may prevent the body from getting the oxygen it needs to heal.

Jennie Stuart Health is now accepting applications for the Henry R. Bell, MD, Scholarship Fund, which will award a total of four $2,000 scholarships to high school students interested in a career in the healthcare field. Students from Christian, Todd and Trigg counties are welcome to apply.

Applications are available online below, and may be mailed to Jennies Stuart Health, ATTN: Anita Walker  320 W. 18th Street P.O. Box 2400 Hopkinsville, KY 42241. The deadline to submit applications is April 1st 2018. Winners will be notified by mail.
