Neurology

Now Accepting New Patients

Neurology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of disorders of the nervous system. The nervous system is a complex, sophisticated system that regulates and coordinates body activities. It has two major divisions:

  • Central nervous system: the brain and spinal cord
  • Peripheral nervous system: peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junction and muscles

Neurology also involves understanding and interpreting imaging and electrical studies. Examples of the imaging studies used include computed tomography (CT) scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. An electroencephalogram (EEG) can be used to assess the electrical activity of the brain in the diagnosis of conditions such as epilepsy and EMG and NCS for peripheral nervous systems disorders. Neurologists also diagnose infections of the nervous system by analyzing the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), a clear fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.
